Preparing the jail. The instructions in this post host the app server in a jail on FreeBSD. To learn why we use jails for this purpose, check the Application server section of our self-hosted architecture post. In this section, you’ll perform the following tasks: Create a jail. Configure networking on the jail. Install the prerequisite packages.

Created a new jail on 11.2 U1 and followed your instructions (also had to pkg install git) Get as far as starting the service and I get the below. If I tried adding a hosts entry for lancache-riot it warns about missing one for lancache-blizzard etc. Popular packages such as Apache, NGINX, LigHTTPD, MySQL, and PHP can be found and installed with the pkg search and pkg install commands. This example shows creating a jail, installing an Apache web server, and setting up a simple web page. NOTE: Do not directly attach FreeNAS to an external network (WAN). Use port forwarding, proper firewalls. The open source Apache HTTP Server is the most widely used web server. FreeBSD does not install this web server by default, but it can be installed from the www/apache24 package or port. This section summarizes how to configure and start version 2.x of the Apache HTTP Server on FreeBSD. No jail is created because the DNS fails during the use of the plugin install and everything is rolled back by freenas. Any portion of the plugin setup that requires the jail to do DNS lookups fails. The documentation states that resolv.conf is inherited from the host. That doesn't appear to be happening for the jail.

This guide a is to show how to build MariaDB with WSREP and Galera for a Multi-Master SQL database cluster. It is assumed that a FreeNAS jail has been setup as per Issue #329 and root access has been obtained.

Update the ports tree:

Once that is done, build mariadb55-server from the ports tree, the uninstall mariadb55-server. This is to resolve the source dependencies for recompiling the MariaDB server later on with wsrep.

And now resolve a few dependencies before compiling the new MariaDB server:

Download and compile MariaDB with wsrep¶

Download the latest Galera patched MariaDB from launchpad

Compile MariaDB with wsrep:

Install Galera from the ports tree (recommended)

Remove any existing galera packages:

Modify the build environment

Download galera source

Copy the modules:

Configure mysql¶

Copy mysql config sample:

Setup the boot scripts¶

Copy the boot mariadb boot script

The boot script also needs to be edited, like the following example:

Initialize and secure the MariaDB database

Bootstrap the new Galera cluster

Now in a second terminal connection run the mysql_secure_installation script to do some post-installation hardening:

By this point MariaDB should be able to be controlled by the service command:

Check the wsrep status
